Couch Potato Pickings | The Five Most Annoying Songs from Movies

1. Everything I Do, I Do it For You from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

This Bryan Adams ballad remained at the number one spot in the UK for 16 weeks. It’s hardly surprising then that so many of us find it annoying. Do people still play this as a first dance wedding song? Surely not?

Prince of Thieves, Kevin Costner

2.  Unchained Melody from Ghost

I didn’t mind this song when the Patrick Swayze film came out back in 1990, but I do mind it now, and that’s thanks to the  excessive number of cringey covers that have attacked my eardrums since.

3. Love is All Around from Four Weddings and a Funeral

How many weeks at number one? Four Weddings and a Funeral had a lot to answer for. Wet Wet Wet‘s version of The Troggs‘ song sat in the number one spot for 15 weeks. When some radio stations started banning it, Wet Wet Wet made the decision to withdraw the song from sale.

However, it was a stroke of genius when everyone was forced to listen to the dreaded thing again as a cheesy Christmas song in Richard Curtis‘s Love Actually in 2003.

4. My Heart Will Go On from Titanic

Sorry Celine, loved this celtic-sounding ballad when I bought your album back in 1997, but now all I can think of is French & Saunders‘ version.

5. I Will Always Love You from The Bodyguard

Sorry Dolly, I hate to put this in the list, but when Whitney Houston subjected your lovely ballad to her powerhouse vocal acrobatics I was mortified.

I’m sure Dolly Parton doesn’t care though – she got a nice little windfall when Whitney Houston decided to sing her country classic in in the 1992 film co-starring Kevin Costner.
